“We commend Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin for his recommendation on House Bill 1699, which allows more time for thoughtful consideration of the unfair and divisive nature of this legislation. Stripping tax-exempt status from specific nonprofit organizations sets a dangerous precedent, threatening the integrity of charitable and historical groups across our state and nation.
The United Daughters of the Confederacy is a historical, educational, and patriotic organization dedicated to honoring our ancestors and preserving our Southern heritage. We reject any association with hate groups and stand firmly against discrimination in all forms.
Our ancestors were American veterans who fought and sacrificed in a pivotal chapter of our nation’s history. We do not judge them by today’s standards, nor do we seek to rewrite the past but rather to preserve its lessons for future generations.
Our tax-exempt status is rooted in our charitable contributions, educational initiatives, and historical preservation efforts. Any attempt to revoke it is not only unjust but also an act of targeted discrimination.”
